We have a new “toy”, a USB Microscope. This digital device connects directly to our computer and we can use it to capture microscopic still images or moving pictures. Here is our first USB Microscope image!

Bone Inspiration

As Medical Illustrators, we refer to the beauty of natural phenomena in order to give our illustrations and animations the most realistic and interesting look. This particular image is a good inspiration for what bone might look like in cross-section.

Well, it’s not bone.  For all you 49′ers, it is a close up of sourdough bread!

Below is an actual microscopic photo of trabecular bone.  Now, you can compare the similarities and differences between bone and bread.
