Project: Lyme Disease
This award-winning scene shows our original 3D computer generated model of a female deer tick, Ixodes scapularis,   transmitting the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme Disease.

Experts at the CT Agricultural Experiment Station and the University of  Rhode Island were consulted on the anatomical features for the construction of this model.  This 3D model is scientifically accurate and can be animated in any environment and from any perspective.

Fun Facts!
This species of tick actually releases a cementum over time to anchor itself in your skin.  Here it is represented by the whitish material surrounding the snout-like hypostome buried beneath the skin surface.

Lyme Disease when caught early is treatable with antibiotics.
